Details
Romanian director Teodora Mihai returns to the theme of relationships between parents and absent children, but this time she delves into the investigation of the disappearance of young women in the country. The visual texture of La civil employs natural light and the formal visual style of handheld camera work, creating a strong impression of reality to underscore its message more powerfully.
Synopsis: La civil tells the story of Cielo, a mother searching for her daughter who was kidnapped by a cartel in northern Mexico. When the authorities refuse to help, Cielo decides to take matters into her own hands. She begins her investigation and gains the trust of Lamarque, an unconventional soldier deployed in the region. He agrees to help her in her search because Cielo's information can aid him in his own operations. Their collaboration drags Cielo into a terrible spiral of violence. The story is inspired by real events.
