Photoshop - Holiday Greeting Card Mini-Workshop
Details
Have you always wanted to make your own Holiday Greeting cards, complete with images you have captured, holiday-themed graphics, and custom text? Well, this is the event for you! Join us for a mini-workshop featuring using Photoshop as your greeting card workshop.
First, we will start on the right foot and discuss Photoshop document sizes, ensuring we create a size compatible with most printing services and the standard sizes the greeting card industry uses most often. We will focus on selecting the correct image sizes, document resolution, color space, color depth, and background layer contents. These settings are the foundation for the most versatile document setup and create the foundation for a functional and reusable greeting card template.
Next, we will explore the various layers that will make up your greeting card design. Smart Photoshop users know that documents that rely upon layers to keep the components of any design separate allow for the most editing flexibility both at design time and in the future. We will explore background layers, image layers, layer masks, clipping masks, graphics layers, and text layers.
Two of the really neat tricks that we will explore during this workshop will be the use of clipping layers for images, as well as some advanced text layers and corresponding text techniques and special effects.
Lastly we will have a quick discussion on various methods for getting your completed cards bulk printed in time for the holidays.
You can approach this workshop in one of two ways: You can watch Holiday Greeting Cards being designed in Photoshop or follow along on your computer.
If you choose to follow along, you should ensure you have the latest version of Photoshop installed on your system (Photoshop 2025 (v26.0))). Depending on their age, other versions may also work; just be advised that limited time will be available to troubleshoot version differences as we go through the exercises.
Sample files will be provided using a loaner USB key. The key can be connected to either a USB-A or USB-C port. When the workshop is completed, you will have templates that can be modified for your own card design and the knowledge of how to get these templates printed in time for the holidays.
