Let's go to Napa for the day!

Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa, CA, has a fascinating history, blending nature and human impact. Originally part of Rancho Tulucay, a Mexican land grant, the area later became part of the Napa State Hospital grounds. In the 1970s, as Napa expanded, locals fought to preserve the rugged wilderness from development. This effort led to the creation of Skyline Park in 1980, a rare success in protecting open space for public use. Today, it’s a beloved spot for hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, while its diverse terrain—from oak woodlands to lakes—also shelters wildlife, offering a vibrant escape from Napa Valley’s vineyards. We will be making the most of the park and traveling the trails to do the perimeter of the park.

Guidelines:
As always:
Make sure you are prepared for a hike with a group. Hiking with a group is very different from hiking on your own. Make sure that you have the time to participate. A hike can take longer with a group. If you sign up to hike with a group, then you are expected to end with the group.
If you are in the lead you will end up waiting at trail junctions. If you are in the back, you will be asked to do your best to keep up with the group and at waiting points, the group may move on as soon as you are within sight. Our pace averages 2.5-3mph. If is your responsibility to keep track of where the group is going.
Please always check your email before you leave the house just in case there are any necessary adjustments to the hike details. Cancellations or any adjustments will be usually posted by 10 pm the previous evening but sometimes we have to cancel in the morning if the weather report worsens overnight.
Please cancel before 5pm the day before the event. You are considered a no-show if you fail to do this.
Have a snack, that you can eat as you walk, in an easy to reach spot. We OFTEN stop for lunch well past halfway. Many times, you will need something to eat before we stop for lunch. Be prepared!
Duration: 4-5 hours

Bring plenty of water. More than one bottle is usually a good idea.
Bring food for our break. Bring your smile and great attitude!
For hikes over 10 miles it is always appreciated if you bring something to share!
Carpool locations: Please read below. We do NOT prefill cars. We have all prospective car poolers make a comment of where they will be in the comments below. Please make a comment as SOON as you RSVP. If you see others commenting that they will be there too, then you know that you have a carpool and make sure to show up prepared to drive if need be. We figure out the details at the site. There are no guarantees about who gets in. It is worked out at the carpool spot. Be prepared to drive to the trailhead in case it doesn't work out.

Rule of thumb is $8 for one hour drive to trailhead. $12 for over one hour. Make sure to insist on paying your driver and do it as you get in the car please. That way you don't forget.
