Name: Schultz Canyon and Lawndale Ramble + (Moderate+), ~11 miles

This is an Annadel hike that is \~12 miles in length with an elevation gain of approximately 1,300 feet. We are going to head out on Lawndale Rd., up to Shultz (both quiet country roads) where we will catch the Schultz Trail. We will meander through the forest to near Ledson Marsh where we will pick up and follow the lovely Ridge Trail, till we meet and turn right onto Marsh Trail. We'll stay on Marsh Trail past Buick Meadow and will have our break at a picnic table by the junction with Two Quarry Trail where there is also a restroom. This will be well past halfway, so you may want to bring some snacks in your pocket to get you to our break. We will finish our loop by way of the Lawndale trail which used to be a road used by stone cutters working in the basalt quarries once located near Ledson Marsh. This is a very pleasant hike as the climbs and the descents are gentle. If you like gentle forest hikes you will like this hike!

Directions:

From Hwy 101 and Hwy 12 in Santa Rosa, drive 1.54 miles west on Hwy 12 to Farmers Lane. Turn left and drive one mile to 4th street, following the Hwy 12 signs. Turn right and continue 8.4 miles to Lawndale Road. Turn right and go 1.1 miles to the trailhead parking lot on the right.

Please always check your email the night before just in case there are any necessary adjustments. This is especially important if there are any weather issues. Cancellations due to weather will be posted by 10 pm the previous evening. We often do hike in light rain.

Give yourself time to find the trailhead so that you arrive prior to the scheduled time. That is the time we head out on the trail. It would be disappointing to miss having you on the hike due to your late arrival.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes with good rugged soles that are well broken in.

Facilities: At break stop; rustic

Dogs?: None allowed

Bring plenty of water. More than one bottle is usually a good idea.

Dress in layers. The hike starts off cool but rapidly warms up.

Bring a snack; our stop will be well past halfway, so plan accordingly - possibly with some snacks in your pocket to carry you through.

Bring your smile and great attitude! If you are a fast hiker you will be waiting for those of us that huff and puff our way up the trail. If you are a slow hiker you will find that as soon as you are in close visual sight of the waiting group we will be moving on. Out of respect for the group, those in the back are asked to focus their efforts on keeping up with the group. Please make sure this is something that you will enjoy!
