There is an $8 entrance fee for this park. Bring your State Park Pass, cash or a check to pay when you arrive if there is no one in the kiosk.

This hike is 10.2 miles and 1300 feet elevation gain. Yes, dogs on leash are allowed on this hike, but make sure they are decent hikers and can put in 10 miles.

The trail is a mix. It starts out flat along a mixed use (bikes, hiking, campers) path along Lagunitas Creek in Samuel P Taylor Park for a few miles. At the end of this stretch, we cross the river and get ready for our climb.

The trail then climbs 1,300 feet along a shady and lush rough fire road for a couple miles up to Bolinas Ridge. We hit the top of the ridge, then slowly trek off for 4 miles, taking in views of Pt. Reyes, Mt. Wittenburg, and Tomalas Bay. About half way along this stretch (more than half way through the hike) we will stop for a 10 minute break. Further down the ridge you can see Barnabe Peak, as well as Big Rock Ridge in the distance.

Towards the end of the ridge, we drop down to the Cross-Marin trail, paved along this stretch as we head the remaining route back to our trail head at the campground / picnic area

Enter the park and immediately after the kiosk where you pay look for parking by the restrooms on your left.

As always:
\*Make sure you are prepared for a hike with a group. Hiking with a group is very different from hiking on your own. Make sure that you have the time to participate. A hike can take longer with a group. If you sign up to hike with a group, then you are expected to end with the group.

\*If you are in the lead you will end up waiting at trail junctions. If you are in the back, you will be asked to do your best to keep up with the group and at waiting points, the group may move on as soon as you are within sight. Our pace averages 2.5-3mph. If is your responsibility to keep track of where the group is going.

\*Please always check your email the night before just in case there are any necessary adjustments to the hike details. Cancellations or any adjustments will be posted by 10 pm the previous evening.

\*MANDATORY!! Have a snack, that you can eat as you walk, in an easy to reach spot. We OFTEN stop for lunch well past halfway. Many times, you will need something to eat before we stop for lunch. Be prepared!

\*An RSVP is a commitment. Any RSVP not cancelled by 5 pm the prior day to the event is considered a no-show. Multiple no-shows may affect your ability to RSVP in the future. Please only RSVP for one event a day. Putting your name on a waiting list is considered an RSVP.

Carpool locations: Please read below. We do NOT prefill cars. We have all prospective car poolers make a comment of where they will be in the comments below. Please make a comment as SOON as you RSVP. If you see others commenting that they will be there too, then you know that you have a carpool and make sure to show up prepared to drive if need be. We figure out the details at the site. There are no guarantees about who gets in. It is worked out at the carpool spot. Be prepared to drive to the trailhead in case it doesn't work out.

Rule of thumb is $8 for one hour drive to trailhead. $12 for over one hour. Make sure to insist on paying your driver and do it as you get in the car please. That way you don't forget.
