This is a rollercoaster and also training for those going to Patagonia
Explore San Geronimo Ridge Road in Marin and you will find Kent Lake, a Caterpillar Trail, dense forest, and little to no people around! The 10-mile 1,900 ft elevation gain hike follows Peter’s Dam to Grassy Knoll to San Geronimo Ridge Road to Boulder Springs trail to inch along the Caterpillar trail and back to San Geronimo Ridge Road is in the middle of the Marin Municipal Water District, Samuel P Taylor State Park and Gary Giacomini Open Space Preserve. Not many people hike out here on the open fire roads and rugged side trails so if you are looking for a nice hike with fewer people, this might just be your spot!
Marin Municipal Water District is the main part of the land that we will be hiking on. The watershed provides water to Marin County as well as open space to hike and bike. Kent Lake is Marin’s largest reservoir and lowest in elevation in the chain of lakes that starts with Lake Lagunitas’ spillway pouring into Bon Tempe, which overflows into Alpine Lake and then drains down to Kent Lake.
There are several miles of hiking trails throughout the Marin Municipal Water District all the way up to Mount Tamalpais. The diversity of terrain, trees, and types of trails make this a hiker’s playground, and we use this playground as much as possible!!
Guidelines:
As always: If you are in the lead you will end up waiting at trail junctions. If you are in the back, you will be asked to do your best to keep up with the group and at waiting points, the group may move on as soon as you are within sight. Our pace averages 2.5-3mph.
Please always check your email the night before just in case there are any necessary adjustments to the hike details. Cancellations or any adjustments will be posted by 10 pm the previous evening.
Duration: 4-5 hours

Bring plenty of water. More than one bottle is usually a good idea.
Bring lunch for our break. Bring your smile and great attitude!
Carpool locations: Carpool fees have gone up for the first time in 10 years! Please read below. We do NOT prefill cars. We have all prospective car poolers make a comment of where they will be in the comments below. If you see others commenting that they will be there too, then you know that you have a carpool and make sure to show up prepared to drive if need be. We figure out the details at the site. There are no guarantees about who gets in. It is worked out at the carpool spot. Be prepared to drive to the trailhead in case it doesn't work out.

Rule of thumb is $8 for one hour drive to trailhead. $12 for over one hour. Make sure to insist on paying your driver and do it as you get in the car please. That way you don't forget.
