What we’re about
Soul Song Choirs are kicking off our BRAND NEW choir in GAWLER with a workshop and performance run by our Founder, Jacqueline Larsen, and following that with an initial five week taster program run by our local Directors, Brianna Teehan and Cindy-Anne MacDonald. Both the workshop and the program will feature some of the Bangers and Mashups from our Adelaide Fringe show. The vision is to continue with a permanent choir in 2025, which will also be joined by one or two sister choirs in Adelaide from January.
The Gawler and Adelaide choirs will be part of a network of community pop choirs across Australia who meet for the joy of singing and the love of community. While you'll be part of a thriving local community, you'll also have the opportunity for regional, interstate and international travel and exciting projects with over 500 members across Australia if that's something that excites you!
WHO ARE SOUL SONG CHOIRS?
Singing in Cairns and Brisbane since 2010, we are all-inclusive community choirs and we’re on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to make a joyful noise together. We sing a range of pop, soul and gospel songs that you'll love to sing and that our audiences will love to hear. Our secret weapon lies in the way we do things - our rehearsals are judgement-free places where you can sing in safety regardless of experience or ability.
So, Gawler - let's get singing!

- Evanston Progress Association Hall, 65 Angle Vale Road, Evanston Gardens (adjacent to the Evanston Gardens Primary School an Evanston Library)
- Cost: $25 including workshop resources, afternoon tea, GST and a performance
Come and check out a rehearsal free and sing like no-one's listening! Rehearsals are:
- Thursdays from 14 November to 12 December 2024, with plans to continue in 2025
- 6.30-8.30pm
- The Loft, Gawler Arms Hotel, 102 Murray St, Gawler
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE WORKSHOP?
You'll spend the afternoon singing a collection of energetic and powerful pop songs all mixed together in medleys and mashups. They will all be songs that you know and that will get you very quickly throwing your head back and singing for joy! We guarantee that you'll leave feeling energised and uplifted.
Soul Song Founder and Director, Jacqueline Larsen (Jaq) will be coming in from Brisbane to run the workshop.
The workshop will run for from 1.30-5pm, with a break for afternoon tea and as a BONUS, we'll wrap up the session with a free performance for family and friends from 5-5.30om so that you can can show off what you've learned! They will even get to singalong with some of it too!
No prior experience or ability is required and anyone 16+ is welcome. You don't need to be a Soul Song member nor plan on attending our regular rehearsals, although we’d love you to!
We will provide any lyrics or other resources - you just need to bring a sense of adventure, some water (or tea/coffee), a pencil or pen and reading glasses (if you're of that kind of age!)
REGISTRATION FOR THE WORKSHOP IS ESSENTIAL please as we’re limited in space.
THE REHEARSAL EXPERIENCE
New members, from 16 upwards, are welcome at any time and your first rehearsal is always free so you can check us out without obligation.
Rehearsals are primarily about working on repertoire and building vocal technique but we try to mix up rehearsals each week to keep them interesting and we also work a lot in smaller sections to help songs progress faster.
Those who come the most often get the most out of Soul Song but there is no expectation for people to come every single week and we have lots of resources available for those who miss a week or a few to help them catch up if they want to. You'll get more information on this when you join, but these include audio learning tracks, video tutorials, sheet music, technical tutorials and more.
We will give you a member pack and all the lyrics you need once you've signed up. Then each week when you come, you just need to bring some water, a highlighter, pen or pencil, your lyric book and reading glasses if you're of that kind of age!
Your first rehearsal is free so you can come along and check us out without obligation! Once you sign up as a member and pay your fees, you can attend as many rehearsals a week online or in person as you want. For our initial Gawler 5 week pop up choir, fees are $72 standard or $48 concession (which equates to 4 weekly rehearsals at $18/$12 a week and one bonus week for free.)
Concession rates apply to students, concession card holders, pensioners etc
We'd love to see you soon!
Soul Song Choirs are proud to be a recipient of the MeetUp Community Fund 2024, recognising our commitment to community building.

WHO ARE SOUL SONG CHOIRS?
Soul Song Choirs are non-religious, funky pop choirs for people from all backgrounds and with all levels of musical experience to come together because they love to sing. Our members are teachers, electricians, nurses, lawyers, business owners, students, retirees and retail workers. Some have a heap of musical experience when they come to us and some have none. We have quite a few mums/dads/daughters/sons/sisters too so it's a great way to stay connected with your family and have fun together!
Everything about Soul Song is designed to make life easy for you. We know you're busy so there is no expectation for you to come to every single rehearsal - you just come when you feel like singing. What's even better is that there are no auditions and you don't even have to be able to read music. We teach all the songs by ear in a fun and relaxed atmosphere and we provide you with all the lyrics you need as well as some additional resources for those who want to practice on their own during the week.
The songs we sing are generally pop songs from all eras but with some gospel, motown and soul thrown in. We sing generally in three or four part harmony and with either professional backing tracks or a cappella (which means without instruments).
We are on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to sing together music that is good for the soul.
We'd love to see you at rehearsal soon! If you want to have a chat before you come along, feel free to sing out - pun intended. Send Jaq a message at [email protected] or call her on 0412 255587.
P.S.- don't worry if there are only a couple of people marked as 'going' on the Meetup Event. This isn't the primary way we manage our group, it just helps new people find us.
