Know Thyself! Welcome all lovers of wisdom.
The goal of the Socratic Club is to bring together people from all different walks of life who are interested in discussing works of philosophy, theology, and literature by the greatest minds of history.
We are a diverse group of men and women who are intellectually sharp, open minded, and willing to learn and engage in dialogue on the path of wisdom.
Our meetings are two hours long the second Thursday of each month at Living Green Cafe starting at 6:30pm.
We love to see new faces: please feel free to send us a message or drop in for a meeting.

Text Of Discussion
Why AI Art is not Art: A Heideggerian Critique - Dr. Karl Kratz
Dr. Karl Kraatz Philosopher, Sinologist Lecturer at Zhejiang University
Synthesis philosophica, Vol. 38 No. 2, 2023
https://www.karl-kraatz.deNOTE: It was great to discuss Heidegger's conception of Being, Enframing, and the essence of technology. Heidegger saw Art as Techne/Poiesis in the manner of Ancient Greece as the means whereby we can overcome the estrangement from Being, and recapture Truth as the unconcealment of Being. Heidegger was writing post WWII, now we have the internet and AI. What is AI in relationship to Heidegger's concept of technology? Can AI create art? What IS art and what is its function? Join us for a great discussion!
