South Herts Walk and Social is a private Meetup Group and members can only join by invitation. The title of this event is deliberately vague because the title, date and time are publicly visible but all other information such as location and event details is only visible to members. The real title is:
Sunday pre-Christmas walk, Barnet - Totteridge circular 6.3 mls
Hike from Barnet to Totteridge mostly in the Green Belt countryside, including some little-known green spaces. Have you been to Darlands Lake Nature Reserve? If not, here is a chance.

Buses 107, 184, 263, 307 stop in Wood Street, 5 mins walk away, bus stop "E" or "F" Wood Street or Barnet Church.

HIKE DESCRIPTION:
Walk to Totteridge then via Darlands Lake Nature Reserve and Totteridge Croft Field to the Orange Tree pub arriving about 11:59 for an "elevenses" drink. Continue via Greenway, Buttercup Field, Dollis Valley Greenway and part of the London Loop back to our place by about 2:30 p.m. for a buffet lunch.
Total distance is 10.1 km (6.3 miles), please see map above. There is an option to shorten the walk by 2.4 km (1.5 miles) by missing out Darlands and getting to the pub earlier.
Please RSVP by 13th Dec if possible but if not then we can easily accommodate one or two extra at short notice.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT TO MEETING LOCATION:
By tube: Sutherland Close is about 20 mins walk from High Barnet Station (Northern Line)

By bus: TfL buses 34, 107, 184, 234, 263, 307, 326. The 84B bus service between Potters Bar and Barnet does not run on a Sunday.
By train: Great Northern trains from London King's Cross, Finsbury Park, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City etc. to New Barnet then bus 307.

CAR PARKING NEAR MEETING LOCATION:
There may be a parking space in Sutherland Close otherwise you can park down Manor Road where the parking restrictions do not apply on a Sunday.

• What to bring
Most of the route is on public footpaths in the countryside. Some of these may be slippery, muddy or stony in places. You need adequate footwear, preferably hiking boots, with thick soles and good grip. You also need an outdoor jacket, an extra layer to put on for outdoor stops and a waterproof jacket in case it rains.
Drink is essential, a snack is recommended.

• Important to know
There will be a half way stop at The Orange Tree pub. There are seats outside and you could make this a short "elevenses" stop for a snack before going in for a drink.

Dogs are permitted on South Herts Walk and Social events.
