Space Coast Paddling Society

We'll launch from Desoto Park in Satellite Beach. There is a kayak launch and an ADA launch, so use whichever you want. We will have to paddle through the underpass at South Patrick Drive, but then it opens up into the Grand Canal. We'll take the Grand Canal to Samson Island, paddle around and through the island, and possibly stop for a walk on the island. After paddling back to Desoto Park and loading up our kayaks/SUPs, we'll drive east on Desoto Parkway to Doubles for lunch.

Let's explore the Indian River Lagoon and the canals and islands south of Honest John's Fish Camp in South Melbourne Beach. This is a slow speed, no wake manatee zone about five miles north of Sebastian Inlet State Park, so hopefully we'll see some manatees and dolphins.
Bring PFD, whistle, water, bug spray, and sun screen.
As always all are welcome to gather for lunch at a location TBD.

We will meet at 8:15 am and launch by 8:30 am.

We like to go to Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary every December to see the pelicans and other birds that have migrated south. This time we will have a professional birder to teach us about the birds and point them out as we go! Birding with David Simpson offers birding tours, guiding and education. David has over 30 years of experience leading tours, is familiar with all aspects of Florida wildlife, and has an extensive knowledge of land management practices, local history, native plants, snakes, frogs, and many other critters you encounter in Florida. He will give a presentation prior to the paddling tour on Tuesday, Dec, 10 at BeachFly Brewing Company about the various birds and wildlife of Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary. The presentation is free and open to all. The associated paddling tour/field trip of Ulumay will be on Sunday, December 15. The cost is $10 and space is limited. You MUST attend the presentation prior to the trip and pay for the tour then. This is sure to sell out, so reserve your spot now!

Put in at Scurrah's Landing at Riverview Park --> 2421 Riverview Dr, Melbourne. Paddles wet at 9 am. We will paddle north on the Indian River past the Chart House Restaurant and through the marina to Crane Creek. The creek winds through the downtown area, past both lush Florida greenery and several houses on the river. Once we reach the F.I.T. Botanical gardens and can't paddle any further, it's time to turn around and head back. This is a nice centrally located paddle for those who don't want to travel too far.
As always, plan on lunch at a local restaurant to socialize and discuss the paddle.
