Backpacking 101: Learning the Basics & Overnight Camping at Tosohatchee WMA

Details

Are you an avid camper and hiker who wants to try backpacking or do you have some backpacking knowledge that you are willing to share? Well now is your chance! Please join us for our Seventh Annual Backpacking 101: Learning the Basics event. We will cover the basics of backpacking (i.e., tents, packs, sleeping pads, sleeping bags, clothing, hiker safety, water filtration, stoves, food preparation etc.) and even get some day hiking in over the course of Saturday and Sunday.
Do you have any backpacking gear? Bring it so that we can have a “show and tell” about our various types of gear and discuss our personal preferences.

If you are interested in leading a topic to share with the whole group, please let Michelle know via email.

If you are interested and the event is full, sign up for the wait list. You will most likely get moved "to going" closer to the event date as folks sign up and then drop out.

The Details:
VETERAN BACKPACKERS: You are welcome to attend! It is always good to have multiple veteran backpackers participate so that we can share our knowledge, passion and lessons learned!

PREVIOUS ATTENDEES: You are welcome to attend but keep in mind that it is going to be very similar to our previous Backpacking 101 events with a few tweaks.

Please Note: This is an OVERNIGHT camping event. Make sure that you bring your own camping gear, water, snacks, and food for 4 meals (lunch & dinner on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday.) You will be able to store all of your food and water in your vehicle so bring a cooler if you want.
• We will meet inside the management area at the Kiosk at 9:00 A.M. where we will each fill out the access pass and include the $3.00 per person camping fee. Folks who are over 65, Military or disabled are free.
• We will be primitive camping close to our vehicles in Tosohatchee’s youth sites. Since we will be so close to our vehicles (about 100 yards), backpacking gear is not required, only car camping gear.
• We will have access to a picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire ring. Don’t forget your camp chair and firewood, if you have any.
• We will also have access to a pavilion and a vault toilet.
• Saturday and Sunday will consist of various backpacking topics scheduled throughout the day ending with a hike on Sunday before we leave.

Please feel free to message me or call my cell phone at 321-604-9472.

We hope to see you there!
Michelle
