Indoor Monday Meet - Newton Recreation Center
Details
Come train with us at the Newton Recreation Center, which is graciously hosting us for another winter.
What to bring: any HEMA-related equipment you might have is fine, but not required. The club has its own stash of protective gear and training weapons for those who aren't yet addicted enough to HEMA to have bought their own stuff. We recommend bringing water because you will have the option to break a sweat. Athletic clothing is also recommended.
What to expect: Everything we do is opt-in, so you're welcome to borrow some equipment and split off to do your own thing even during class as long as instructors aren't disrupted by it, of course. The last half hour of class is open floor where we mostly spar, but instructors are still available (while not sparring each other) and happy to help students with anything they want to work on during open floor.
As for what the instructors will lead: Warm-ups and stretches, demonstrations, drills, and games. Our training mostly focuses on Fiore's longsword and Roworth's and Taylor's saber but we have several other options for weapons: rondel dagger, Bolognese sidesword, and by request ahead of time or due to an instructor's whims, spear and poleaxe. We train grappling as well, but we're undeniably biased towards having weapons in our hands. If there's a HEMA weapon system you're really interested in, let us know and we'll figure out how to make it happen. Some rambling, unsolicited explanations of fencing principles may occur.
Every week on Monday until February 24, 2025
