What we’re about
This is a fun and welcoming group of people who enjoy playing board and card games like Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, Dominion, Wingspan, etc. If you haven't heard of any of those, don't worry! We're happy to teach, and we'll choose what to play based on who wants to join in.
The games we play have a wide range of:
- play times: from 10 minutes to a couple hours
- conflict: from purely cooperative to highly competitive
- skill level: from relatively few decisions to deeply strategic
- complexity: from just a few rules to 20+ page rulebooks
- theme: just about anything, including farming, sci-fi, fantasy, abstract, etc.
We're not really into:
- party games like Apples to Apples or Trivial Pursuit
- deterministic abstracts like Chess or Go
- traditional games like Monopoly or Sorry
- card games that use a conventional deck like poker or bridge
- collectible games like Magic or Pokemon
- wargames
It's not that we'll never play those, but they are not our focus. If you enjoy any of those, consider joining us anyway. You might find that you really enjoy modern games. Cooperative games are especially interesting, where everyone at the table works together against the game, and everyone wins or loses as a team. Lots of folks who didn't enjoy board games as kids end up loving co-ops.
Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-teens and above are welcome (with supervision) if they can be mature participants.
NOTE: This group was originally named "South Hill Board Gaming", but I have renamed it to be less narrow. We were already getting attendees from all over the area. If anyone wants to organize board gaming meetups, send me a direct message so we can discuss making you an organizer.
