***Note: we will be changing the meeting link and protocols going forward including temporarily disabling private chat messages (other than to contact a host) within the SPIF zoom meeting and creating a waiting room. Zoom link will be added to event closer to the meeting date.***

**SPIF** (Square Pegs on Intermittent Fridays) will be a 90 minute virtual meeting with 2-5 co-hosts. We'll likely have meetings twice a month as scheduling allows (as to not interfere with Zack's Friday SP meetings). We are all a bit new to hosting SP meetings and are trying out a few ideas to see what works best.

**Most meetings will have a starting topic, idea, or icebreaker** but the conversation can and will meander freely. We are looking to create a safe space to get together and have discussions that will evolve organically.

**Voice and video are both optional**
We have a text based chat for use by all including non-speaking members. We ask that you mute your mic until you are about to speak to avoid accidental background noises interrupting speakers. We want everyone to feel comfortable sharing but also to be mindful of others wanting to participate and leaving room for additional conversation. We ask that you don't speak over others.

**We will also be trying out some breakout rooms**
We encourage attendees to initiate moving there on their own if it feels right, and/or to move back and forth between rooms if you wish. On occasion a host might suggest using one of them if it feels like a smaller portion of the group is engrossed in a topic that might not be as engaging to the majority. The hosts will try to move around a bit, but you can use the "ask for help" feature to silently summon us if needed.

**You're encouraged to add to a conversation even if it feels like the topic has "moved on"**
We've all had those moments when we finally thought of something to say and want you to feel welcome to "double back" with what you'd like to share. This could also be an example of a point where someone might ask for a breakout room to discuss something in more detail. If you're not comfortable asking out loud in the group, please DM a host and we can bring it up. You may also use the "raise hand" option to signal that you want to say something but haven't found a chance.

\*anyone diagnosed, self diagnosed or questioning if they're on the autism spectrum are welcome, however this is a peer-led support group and not intended for family or caregivers of autists seeking advice. Exception: caregivers attending WITH someone on the spectrum.
