 Indie RPG Game Night (Online)

Details

Welcome to the -virtual- version of Story Games LA's Indie RPG Night, Where we play story games and independent role-playing games (RPGs)!
Everyone of any experience level is welcome, with no prior knowledge required. Almost all games are one-shots or episodic, so no regular attendance is necessary.

Some games such as Apocalypse World and Blades in the Dark have a game master and players, in a way similar to Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) and traditional RPGs. Some games are “GM-less” and have no game master, instead using shared narrative authority, such as Microscope, Fiasco, and The Quiet Year.

This meetup is virtual and will take place in the Story Games LA discord voice chat channel. We plan to meet up starting at 5:45pm, and pitch games promptly at 6:30pm. Games tend to normally last 2-4 hours. The event is free to attend.

If you plan on attending, please RSVP and you will receive a link to the Story Games Discord. We will try to accommodate everyone best as possible. If your plans change, please update your RSVP as early as possible so we have an accurate count. This helps us know how many potential players and game facilitators we'll have on that night.

We try to provide an inclusive space, and do not tolerate harassment or prejudice of any kind, including that based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or disabilities. (If you have any issues, please contact one of the meetup organizers at any time, either during the meetup or afterwards.) We use the X-card and other RPG safety mechanics, and will discuss these just prior to the session. For details, please read our Community Standards document at https://bit.ly/StoryGamesLA-CommunityStandards.

If you plan on playing, pitching, or facilitating a game, please make sure to prepare the materials you need to play virtually. This includes rules, notecards, dice, blank paper, tokens, or a virtual tabletop if applicable. We may have some work arounds for items that are missing, but due to the virtual nature of the event, we may not have a work around for everything.

Once the games have been pitched, players will break into groups, using the audio + video tools the game master/game facilitator has decided to use. This may be a combination of Discord, Zoom, Jitsi, Roll20, or others. If you need help, please ask the facilitator and other players to assist you.
