Marked Spaces: From the Market to the Back Alleyways

On this photowalk we will visit the antiques market on Lincoln Road, and then walk to Española Way. As we walk, we will explore the back alleyways, side streets, and overlooked spaces in the area, letting a sense of chance guide our walk.

PHOTO CHALLENGE: “Markers”:
Our challenge will be to notice the markers that guide our movement, actions, thoughts, and feelings through different spaces: the salesman's smile encouraging us to buy and to feel happy about buying, the long walkway directing our movement forward, the sign that turns us on another path, the mystery created by a corner, the visually striking things that pull us closer, the things that push us away. Who is this space for and why are they supposed to be here?

Extra challenge: Try to incorporate an awareness of the organization of space in your photographs: backs and faces, hidden and displayed, high and low, centered and peripheral, etc.

WALK STRUCTURE:
2:00 PM - Meet & Greet
Gather near the fountains at Lincoln Road and Jefferson (906 Lincoln Rd, Miami Beach, FL 33139). Take a moment to introduce yourselves, discuss the theme of the walk, and get inspired by the dynamic surroundings. We will then explore the antiques market.

2:45 PM - Regroup and Prepare to Walk
Pause back at the starting point near the fountains. Take this time to rest, share your initial impressions, or dive into quick edits and discussions about shots you’ve captured so far. We will then walk as a group toward Española Way at 3:00 PM.

4:00 PM - Wrap-Up
Conclude the official walk. For those who’d like to continue, let's explore more of Española Way and find a spot to relax, share our experiences, and enjoy a bite to eat.
