Hike the 116th Annual Newport Harbor Boat Parade

ABOUT THE HIKE: This is a 2 to 3 hour and 5 to 7 mile hike to see the Newport Harbor Boat Parade. This will be a relaxed pace walk without a "sweep." This means that you are free to depart the hike at any time. We will avoid the parking crush on Balboa Island by parking at Fashion Island. Our meetup location will be at the Christmas Tree in Fashion Island. We will proceed on city streets across PCH onto Balboa Island. Our viewing of the Boat Parade will be while walking a loop around the boardwalk that circles Balboa Island (both little and big islands). We return the same route to Fashion Island. Hungry and thirsty hikers can refresh in the food court at Atrium Court or at a variety of other restaurants in the shopping mall.

We will also be viewing the holiday decorations of the beautiful bayfront homes, known as the "Ring of Lights" that have become as celebrated as the boat parade itself. Dress warmly and come expecting a fun, festive, scenic evening of hiking. The hike is dog friendly.

ABOUT THE BOAT PARADE: Now in its 116th year, this is one of the premier holiday events in Southern California. The parade begins at 6:30 PM and features approximately 100 amazingly decorated water craft. This year the parade runs from Wednesday, the 18th, through Sunday, the 22nd. DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From the 405 Freeway, take the Jamboree exit heading toward the ocean.... turn left on San Joaquin Hills Road.... turn right on Santa Cruz Drive into Fashion Island. We will meetup at the lighted Christmas Tree in the shopping mall.
