Monday Evening Hike on Balboa Island and Newport Beach

ABOUT THE HIKE: This flat, five plus mile, two hour, moderate pace hike is a beautiful ocean and harbor experience on Balboa Island and Peninsula. It is considered advanced beginner because of the distance. We will meet in the parking lot of US Bank. REMINDER: The hike starts at 6:15. If you need to go to the restroom or run back to your car for something, please do it before 6:15 out of fairness to other hikers. We will walk across the bridge to Balboa Island, around both Little and Big Balboa Islands on the harbor front boardwalk to the ferry. Taking the ferry over to the Peninsula ($1.75 each way, $3.50 round trip), we will walk through the Fun Zone, north on the harbor front boardwalk, south on the ocean front boardwalk, onto the Balboa Pier, returning on the ferry to the Island and our Meetup location. Route variations may include a visit to the West Jetty and the Wedge, or a beach walk from the Balboa Pier to the Newport Pier. As the route has lots of twists and turns with no sweep, please plan to hang with the group. The hike is dog friendly. After the hike, you are welcome to join us for dinner and drinks at one of the many fine restaurants on Balboa Island (optional). It will be a fun evening outing!

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From the 405 Freeway, exit at Jamboree Road heading toward the coast.... keep going past Pacific Coast Highway.... turn right on Bayside and then turn right into the parking lot of the US Bank building. The bank will be closed at the time of our meetup. You will be parking at the shopping center at your own risk, with alternative street parking nearby on Bayside.
