Sunshine Adventure Hike 11/30: Wasson Peak 🥾☀️

Let’s finish November’s adventure hikes with a challenging journey up to Wasson Peak! We will be hiking the Hugh Norris Trail to Wasson Peak.

This trail is a long and hard 9.7 mile out and back with 2421 feet of elevation gain according to AllTrails and should take us around 6 hours with time for pictures and breaks. While our goal is still to make connections in the sunshine, this adventure hike is definitely more of a challenging journey, suited for hikers who are experienced with difficult trails.

Please note: this is a go at your own pace adventure hike - we will try to stay together as best as possible and I usually go at AllTrails averages as far as pace (this one is listed at 5h19m and we will stretch it to six hours) - but if you are unable to keep up, that’s okay, you can sit back and rejoin the group on the return portion.

We will convene at the trailhead at 5:50am for introductions and begin our hike at 6:00am. This is an early start because so we can be done by noon (I will even bring some caffeinated drinks for the group).

Please bring lots of water and sunscreen, hiking poles will be very useful with long stretches of incline. The weather forecast right now calls for 51 degrees at the start and 68 degrees by the time we finish. Layers are recommended! Given the length and the difficulty of this trail, please make sure you are prepared for this hike, physically and provision-wise.

This will be the longest, most challenging and rewarding adventure hike we have undertaken as a group. At 9.7 miles in length, it rivals Milagrosa and Phoneline…at 2400 feet in elevation, it rivals Pusch Peak (though more spread and not as steep). We aren’t going to go too fast, but this will be a long and hard hike. Please be prepared for a challenge.
