Last year Toni gave us a talk on the Dutch Medway raids, now she’s back to tell us about everyday life in medieval London, from Anglo-Saxon to Tudor times. And she happens to have just published a book on this very topic!

For this talk we'll venture into social history as Sue shares the result of her researches on the people who worked the Wey Navigation - the bargemen and barge masters (including several bargemistresses), including the possible origins of the early bargemen, the scale of barge masters’ trade in the early 18th century (by which time there are useful records) and their connections with Guildford.

Cathy Brett MA artist, author and curator of the Leatherhead Museum talks about JMW Turner’s time in Surrey as a young man (illustrated with images of the paintings and drawings he produced during that time) and how it shaped him. The evening is a fundraiser for a small local charity that supports the church buildings of St Lawrence, Effingham and All Saints, Little Bookham. Mulled wine and mince pies are included in the ticket price of £15 via Eventbrite. Places limited.
The event takes place in the historic Manor House School in Manor House Lane, Little Bookham KT23 4EN which is a turning off the A246 between Little Bookham and Effingham.

Morris dancing is a subject of many jokes (“Why do Morris dancers wear bells? So they can annoy blind people as well”), but it has a serious history. Who saved Morris dancing, why & was it worth it? Local favourite Kathy will explain all!
