Blood Mountain via Slaughter Creek Trail (New Years Eve Hike)
Details
Let's Take a Hike to Blood Mountain!
We will hike to Blood Mountain via the Slaughter Creek Trail and return via the AT/Jarrard Gap Trail. This is a difficult hike with about 8 miles and 1800 feet elevation gain. The reward is spectacular views from Blood Mountain! The rhododendron and mountain laurel should be in full bloom this time of year.
We will meet at Lake Winfred Scott Recreation area. Parking is $5 and the pay station is to the right as you enter Lake Winfred Scott. We will meet at the gravel parking lot on the left before you get to the lake. If you see the lake, you've gone too far! Please arrive before 9am so we can start our hike promptly at 9am. Note: I have pinned the directions to Lake Winfred Scott Recreation area but it looks like it will take you to the lake. Just look for the parking lot on the left before you get to the lake.

This is a challenging hike and we will maintain a pace of 2.5-3 mph. We will take a couple of short breaks on the trail and will take about a 30 minute break at the top to enjoy the views of Blood Mountain and have a snack. Please make sure you bring plenty of water and energy snacks. Hiking poles are recommended as well.
Note that this hike is cross posted with Lawrenceville Hikers.
Now for this disclaimers: Please remember that you will be participating entirely at your own risk as Suwanee Take-a-Hikers assumes absolutely no liability (nada, zero, zilch, zip, jack squat) for adverse events which may occur during meetups. I look forward to seeing you on the trail!
