Bike Palm Harbor to Honeymoon Island (20 miles r/t) & Hike the Beach a few miles
Details
Let's get up early and meet at Wall Springs Park in Palm Harbor shortly before 08:00 AM. As this is a Sunday, traffic will be very light and you will be there in no time.
We will start our bike tour with a back and forth ride on a scenic trail to Klosterman Bayou. Thereafter we will take the Pinellas Trail down to Dunedin Causeway. A bike path will lead us to Honeymoon Island State Park. We will continue all the way to the end of the road and park our bicycles at the North Parking Lot (restrooms close by).
Entrance to the park will be $ 2.00 per bicycle unless you own the Florida State Park Pass.
From the parking lot we will hike the beautiful beach as far as we can (and like). If you don't want to hike, you could spend some time at Café Honeymoon or South Beach Pavilion Café at the Main Parking Lot.
Please remember that erosion and sand migration have separated the northernmost mile of the Honeymoon Island State Park sandspit from the main island, forming a temporary cut EVEN BEFORE HURRICANE HELENE AND MILTON. We will have to explore how far we can hike.
When we return from the hike, we will ride back to picturesque Ozona where we will have lunch at Molly Goodhead's Raw Bar & Seafood Restaurant.
After lunch it will be less than 4 miles back to the parking lot at Wall Springs Park.
This event will be a social event and no race. Please do not schedule anything right after as the ride, the hike or lunch might take longer than expected.
Make sure you will bring along plenty of water and protect yourself from the sun. A snack might be a good idea. Don't forget to check your bikes before the ride and don't forget your bike locks.
As always, if you have questions or need directions, you can contact us at (917)774-0941.
