November Tech Talk Night

Details

Hi all, This is the rearranged September tech talk meetup we had to postpone due to venue issues. We're are struggling to find venues to host us currently, if your company has a space and you'd like to help support the group please let us know.

This is our first event at the Temple Studios, next door to Bristol Temple meads train station. We'll be in their community space which is a chilled area with comfortable seats and a large TV for the talks. Usually, for a city centre, there are several RingGo parking spaces (paid) if needed.

We have two great speakers lined up

  • Talk 1: "How the European Accessibility Act impacts your mobile apps". Have you heard of the European Accessibility Act (EAA)? This new legislation impacts private sector organisations providing products and services to customers in the EU, and covers digital services like your website or mobile apps. The deadline for compliance is June 2025. Need a plan to get started?
  • Speaker: Jon Gibbins, digital accessibility consultant and founder, As It Should Be Ltd, with over a decade of experience auditing mobile apps. Loves music, hosts an open mic night and People Planet Pint in Weston-super-Mare.
  • Talk 2: “Design Systems for Large Teams” - How do large teams navigate the complexities of building and maintaining a design system that satisfies users, developers, designers and business stakeholders alike? In "Design Systems for Large Teams," I’ll share insights from my experience as a Senior Android Developer at Dyson, exploring the tough choices teams face in balancing diverse stakeholder needs while keeping developers aligned through every stage—from conceptualisation to delivery and testing. What processes and tools can help teams to adapt quickly to business changes? How can developers and designers stay in-sync? Let’s dive in and find out!
  • Speaker: James Olrog - Senior Android Developer at Dyson with a half-decade of mobile development experience and a passion for refined and accessible user experiences. Enjoys various sports such as golf, football, padel and social run clubs. A recent dad to 3 new desk plants.
