What we’re about
The Salon is not just any discussion group; it is an ever-changing third space where we get together to discuss topics of the day in lightly moderated, heavily free-flowing fashion.
Fashioned from a tension between creative and political minds, we hold semi-regular meetups in welcoming locations. These look a lot like roundtables where everyone participates by speaking their thoughts on the chosen topic. Our events generally last 2-2.5 hours, and then we'll go to dinner or a pub.
We draw inspiration from the ancient agora and the Salons of late 19th/early 20th century Europe. Our aims are to keep our minds open by sharing a range of perspectives from different disciplines and walks of life, to allow wayward thoughts to lead us to new places, and perhaps inspire certain projects and friendships that will continue outside of this space.
Our locations have moved around the city. At the moment, we are hosting our events at The Art Syndicate, a gallery and wine bar run by one of our members.
If you want to join us in furthering Sydney's public discourse, you should join us. We seek people from all walks of life. There are no dues; membership is free.
