What we’re about
"Tai Chi(太極拳) is all about maintaining good posture all the time. In Tai Chi, good posture means being well-balanced and able to move with ease. How do you achieve that? It's simple: practice maintaining your balance in slightly challenging situations.
In my class, we work in pairs where your partner gently pushes or pulls you, creating a slight challenge to help you maintain your balance. The partner applies force softly at first, gradually increasing the intensity according to the other person's level. Sometimes you get pushed and pulled by two people from in front and behind. Occasionally, we practice balancing while wearing an eye mask. I think these exercises are not only fun but also important.
I believe everyone can benefit from this class—What if your partner is very big and strong?
In that case, you can make him stand with one leg or push him from behind.
There are many ways to make the power balance even.
We also offer a class for those who like to compete, it's called "Competitive Tui Shou(推手)." It's similar to sumo and wrestling. You win by pushing your opponent out of a designated circle.
We can work on this kind of things if you wish.
However, you don't need to participate in competitive exercises if you don't feel like it. My class is designed for anyone looking for a nice body workout or fun yet very useful functional fitness for daily life.
