What we’re about
The Weekend Writers' Meetup is a bi-weekly, in person group. We meet under the patio at Jeri's Love on a Plate and enjoy each other’s company while we discuss our work and the nature of writing. We share our work, sometimes simply because we wish to have someone hear what we have written in solitude. Other times we share our work because we are not comfortable with some aspect of what we have written, and sometimes we need feedback, but no one is required to share their work, and at times no one does. We simply talk about writing and our lives.
Some members write fiction, short stories or novels or plays. Some write poetry, and some write business or academic material. Some write strictly for pleasure, some are striving to be published, and some come to sit under the trees and sip excellent coffee.
We strive to keep our meetings laid back, friendly, and fun. As Chuck Palahniuk said, “Use writing as your excuse to throw a party each week — even if you call that party a ‘workshop.'”
Details
In this biweekly, in-person group, members who feel comfortable, are invited to share what they have written so that others can provide positive, constructive feedback.
The folder for submitting work for the Saturday meeting is opened on the Wednesday morning before the Saturday meeting. It is suggested that you submit your material, no more than 25 double-spaced pages, as soon as possible after that so that members of the group will have time to read and provide a thoughtful response. Please put your first and last name on your work, and indicate what kind of feedback you're looking for.
To provide feedback on what others have submitted:
Download a copy of each work and make your suggestions. Google docs is free and you can use the drop down in the upper right to switch to editing mode. You can review previous folders for examples of how our system works.
Please access the Google drive here, and select the appropriately dated folder.
If you need approval to access our Google Drive, please email me at [email protected] and let me know!
Be safe and kind!
