Quaker Meeting for Worship

Details

Welcome to Tar River Friends!

We are an unprogrammed Quaker worship group (silent worship; no pastor) recently formed in Franklin County, NC.

As of July, 2022, Youngsville Library has changed the policy for use of its conference room, so we are not currently able to meet in-person. As soon as a new meeting location has been found, it will be announced. In the meantime, virtual meeting with Durham Friends is still available at 10:30 am every Sunday. The Zoom link is available here: https://www.durhamfriendsmeeting.com/ (scroll to bottom of page)

Virtual Meeting for Worship with Durham Friends is also available Tuesdays at 12:00 noon

For more information, you can reach us by phone at 919.588.4659 (let it ring and leave a message after the beep) or email [email protected]

Our worship is based on a 350-year old practice of waiting quietly with the expectation that we may experience the presence and power of the Holy Spirit among us. We “settle in” quietly and calmly, mindful, but not distracted by movements around us. If someone feels deeply that they have an inspired message to share (i.e. it is more difficult to hold it back than to share it), she or he may speak that truth clearly for all to hear. Others, upon hearing the message, do not comment or respond but process the words in the context of their own meditation.

When the hour is over, an appointed Friend breaks the meeting, there is some sharing, introductions, and announcements.
