We’re more than just a meetup group; we’re a thriving community designed to support tech professionals beyond the technical talk. Now under the guidance of our new organisers Zac, Jessica, Callum, and Luke, after originally being founded by Parul Singh in January 2023

At TechRise MCR, we’re dedicated to elevating careers in tech by fostering personal development, soft skills, and inclusivity. We’re not just a D&I meetup, but inclusivity is at the core of our events, ensuring everyone feels comfortable, safe, and supported. We offer a full event schedule, cater to all dietary needs, provide guidance to our venue, and create spaces where everyone can be their authentic selves. We do not tolerate any form of harassment or discrimination.
🤝 What to Expect
We host a variety of engaging events, including lightning talks, panels, workshops, and group discussions, all aimed at creating opportunities for growth. Each event features speakers new to public speaking, promoting confidence and providing a platform for fresh voices in the community.
Location and Schedule
Our quarterly in-person events are held at venues all around Manchester, we're conscientious to always provide a central and fully accessible venue. We ensure plenty of breakout spaces for those who need a quiet environment.

Enjoy a wide selection of food and drinks at our events, including pizza, beer, and a variety of soft drinks, gluten-free options, and alcohol-free beverages.
We take pride in supporting local businesses, and will provide locally owned and operated sustenance choices where possible (budget allowing!)

Hello! Welcome back!
We are thrilled to announce the revival of the TechRise MCR meetup, taking place on Thursday, November 21st! This time, our theme is on owning your career path in tech.With a new leadership team in place of Jess Stewart, Callum Fraser, Luke Chaplin and Zac Donlon, we’re eager to collaborate in creating a vibrant environment for learning, networking, and personal growth. The ability to set and achieve your own career goals is essential for both professional fulfilment and personal development.
This event is designed not only for those already on the career path but also for anyone looking to gain the skills necessary to advance, get promoted, explore new industries, or find greater satisfaction in their current roles.

About talk 1:
We’ll kick off with a talk from Robert Rosebury, a Lead Fullstack Consultant at Nimble Approach. Rob is an experienced and versatile Lead Consultant specialising in full-stack engineering, with a proven track record of effective leadership and clear communication. He has worked in many different sectors in his tech career but the one thing that remains consistent is his passion for nurturing, helping and empowering people wherever possible. Robert will be talking about mindfulness for working in tech. The tech industry is on a collision course with burnout. So what is mindfulness and how can it help you navigate the daily stresses?About talk 2:
Second up will be Tanya Tran. Coming from Vietnam, Tanya first started building her marketing career in the UK in 2018. Starting as a digital marketing executive in a team of 1, Tanya has moved to her Head of Marketing role in 5 years. With 10 years of experience in marketing and Go-to-Market, she has led the Go to Market at several tech startups from pre-seed to series B, including Uber's Autocab, Infogrid and now Partful.About the panel:
We’ll be joined by our former two speakers andLucy Gregory:
Lucy has over 24 years experience at leading agencies like TBWA and Dept, she has successfully led cross functional teams driving innovation and delivering high impact projects for global brands like Playstation, BP and Johnnie Walker. Lucy specialises in agile leadership, resource management and strategic collaboration and her journey has seen the expansion of digital to enhance satisfaction across diverse creative and production environments.Tom Crawley:
From coder to owner: after 25 years in the industry, Tom has seen it all. Starting out as a developer, Tom moved through various roles and industries before deciding on chasing “the dream life” and going contracting. One thing led to another and Tom ended up an accidental employer and with a team of 7 his company Marimosa built software for such industries as logistics, customs, education, gaming and with some of the biggest brands in the word.
