All We Imagine As Light
Details
I'm catching All We Imagine As Light at the Gene Siskel Film Center downtown! Care to join me?
Directed by Payal Kapadia, this work won the Grand Prix at Cannes this year, which is the runner-up to Anora's Palme d'Ora. Here's a description of the movie excerpted from the film center's page:
"Following her celebrated feature debut, A NIGHT OF KNOWING NOTHING, which the Chicago Tribune’s Michael Phillips proclaimed as his favorite film of 2021, Payal Kapadia’s sophomore effort is a vivid and heartfelt exploration of the sights, sounds, and stories of working-class Mumbai. Winner of the Grand Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT follows two women—the older, married Prabha and the younger, hopeful Anu—as they experience turning points in their personal and romantic lives. A lyrical and exquisite story of sisterhood, ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT is equal parts delicate and courageous, a celebration of a film that solidifies Kapadia as a filmmaker confidently redefining contemporary South Asian cinema. Film Center exclusive."
If you're interested to join, excellent! Here's a link to order tickets.
I'm headed to the 6 PM screening. If you like, you can meet me at the theater as early as 5:30 PM.
If time is too tight for us to successfully convene before showtime, no sweat! We can regroup just after the movie. Its runtime is 110 minutes, so it'll end around 8 PM.
If afterwards we'd like to discuss and chat, we can head to a casual restaurant nearby. I'm open to anything, but here are a couple options that I've enjoyed previously, to start:
- Elephant & Castle (on Lake and Wabash.) a British pub
- Broken English, a Taco pub.
