THE HIKE/WALK: ALDERGROVE PARK

PACE: comfortable pace - please do not go faster than the majority of the group. If you get ahead and do not know the venue you are responsible for yourself. Rule of thumb for safety, wait at all junctions and look behind to make sure you still see the group.

DISTANCE: Approx 11+kms...depends on the tracker & if we include the Jackman Wetlands....an increase of approx 3+kms :-) & the Equestrian Trail approx 2kms.

TIME: Approx 4 + hours depending on pace & kms...option of a turn back for those if unable to do all of it or want to get back early.

ELEVATIONS: minimal but there are some hills.

DIFFICULTY: Easy to moderate depending on fitness. If you walk regularly, no problem. If you are new to walking/hiking a bit more difficult. KNOW YOURSELF AND REALIZE YOUR CAPABILITIES.

TERRAIN: Flat areas, short & long low grade inclines and short up/down hills. Well looked after trails.

Meetup: After parking meet at the info board in the parking lot. THE ENTRANCE IS OFF OF 8TH AVENUE. Drive all the way down to the end...cross the bridge and park to the right.

Bring enough water and food for the 4+ hours. Come dressed for the weather and wear appropriate walking/hiking shoes. Poles/hat/sunscreen as necessary.

INFO:

Aldergrove Regional Park is located on the border of Aldergrove and Langley and just a short distance from the US Border. The park is very popular with families for its easy trails, scenic landscape, and multiple picnic areas. The area also has a number of horse trails and the wide open section of Aldergrove Bowl is popular with horseback riders.
The "historic" lake in the park was formerly located on the west side but had to be removed due to needing major repairs. The lake was actually a man-made cement pool but was filled in and is now a grassy picnic area.
There are many trails in this park and are all groomed, wide and compacted. Nicely shaded but there are several open areas with views.

Jackman Wetlands can be incorporated in this walk if there is interest. It would add approx 3+ kms. & another 2 kms if we do the Equestrian Trail. We can do a total of approx 15 kms.
