What we’re about

What we’re about
Read The Handmaiden’s Tale? Good for you. You’ve read a novel that’s banned in several states! Yes, the list of banned books has been growing (thank you Florida) and we have decided to respond in the best way we know – read them. Each month our book club will choose a banned book to read and discuss - why we liked it or not, why was it banned, etc. We might even move on to such piercing topics as, “Are there some books that should be banned?”, “How do we stop the ban?” and “Is a chili hot dog too messy to eat in public?” Mostly, we want to have fun, lively discussions where all ideas are treated with respect. We’ll meet the second Sunday of the month for now at 2pm @WLA Regional Library’s community room.
As a group we will decide what books we will read. Here are just a few of the books that have been or are currently banned.  As you can see, they include classics, popular novels, and young adult novels. And BTW, there are 100s more - this is just the tip of the bookberg:  The Handmaid's Tale, Slaughterhouse-Five, Beloved, Speak, Lawn Boy, Captain Underpants (Yes, Captain Underpants), The Kite Runner, Last Night at the Telegraph Club, Killing Mr. Griffin, Nineteen Minutes, Lord of the Flies, Brave New World, Breakfast of Champions, The Bluest Eye, The Hate U Give, and To Kill a Mockingbird.
