What we’re about
All right, here it is: I'd like to meet people that share my passions and interests - in this case, books, stories, and, particularly, writing. There are already quite a few interesting groups out there that should fit the bill, but just do not (yet) seem right for me and the place I'm at right now. I don't want to create or participate in workshops, define goals, follow a certain path. What I'm still looking for right now is something more casual (I guess you've heard that before, ladies), but without sacrificing ambition. Something like a casual space for serious people.
I would like to write more, and become better. And I would like to share this process with like-minded and unlike-minded people. Hang out, talk about books, about what we are writing, what we would like to write, read to each other, share stories or bits and pieces, give notes, critique, collaborate ... Ultimately more like a self-help group than a workshop. Like Alcoholics Anonymous. Just with aspiring writers instead of alcoholics. And not anonymous. And possibly with alcohol (though not for me.)
Actually, I was fortunate enough to build exactly such a group back in my former home, Munich. And this group helped me to finally write another short story, which was published in December of 2022 as part of a Noir anthology in the US. This great experience made me realize how important such a "support system" is, and how very much writing is not a solitary endeavour.
Now living in Braunschweig, I'm looking to find new people in this area (possibly including Hannover and Wolfsburg) that join me in facing the Blank Page together!
I write fiction, in English (although I'm German), and although I'm now published (which I consider a very lucky break), I have no illusions that I'm still just starting out. Ideally you are in a similar place, more ambitious than experienced and also write in English. Whether it is fiction, genre, poetry, screenplays - no matter; in that regard, I wouldn't want us to restrict ourselves.
So what say you? Let's do it and together raise a humongous middle finger to the Blank Page.
