THE WALK
A great walk taking in Eagles Nest viewing point, The Gaer Hill Transmitter, Ravensnest Wood, the River Angidy and the Ancient Iron Works.
We leave the Wireworks carpark on country lanes and through woodland to Eagles Nest viewing point, passing an old Lyme Kiln as we go. At Eagles Nest we're rewarded with stunning views across the Chanel and along the Coast before making our way to The Gaer Hill Transmitter where the views are equally if not more impressive. We'll take a break for lunch at Gaer Hill. After lunch we'll continue through countryside passing the Fairoak Pond and through anchient woodland before we reach our final leg of the walk which takes us back to Tintern in part alongside the Pretty Angidy River as it makes it's way to join the River Wye in Tintern. Before reaching Tintern we'll pass the Ancient Ironworks including the Wireworks and the Site of one of the UK's most important Cannon Makers and where the Cannons supplied to the British Army during the American Civil War were made.

There is a steady 700 ft ascent over 1.5 miles at the beginning and a steep descent, including down 365 steps cut into the rock from Eagles nest (those not wanting to go down the steps can take an alternate route and re-join the Group after the Steps).

This walk is an extension of one of John's Explorer walks some of us did during the COVID restrictions; extended to take in Eagles Nest viewing point.

AFTER THE WALK
The Wild Hare, Tintern is closed for refurbishment, I'll post details of an alternate nearer the time.

START TIME, PLACE & PARKING
Please arrive at 10.00am ready for a prompt 10.15am start from the free Wireworks carpark, just off Forge Road, Tintern NP16 6TQ

LUNCH
We will be stopping half way round the walk for a short break, so please bring a drink and a packed lunch.

DOGS
There is space for up to 2 well behaved dogs which are agile enough to cross stiles/gates etc. Dogs must be kept on leads when using foot paths that cross private land. Please let me know if you wish to bring a dog.

VOLUNTARY DONATIONS
We will be asking for small voluntary donations (suggested 20p) to go towards paying for the groups franchise cost.

WEATHER
If severe weather is forecast the walk will be cancelled by 8 am on the morning of the walk at the very latest. PLEASE CHECK ON THE DAY BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR THE WALK.

If you sign up and then decide not to go, please change your RSVP to no so someone else can go. Please remember to do this even when you are on the waiting list.
