Details
This varied walk is one not to miss, with beautiful scenic Woodland Pastures and Hilltops along this route. As well as the buzzing Chatsworth 🎄Xmas Market.🎄
The route starts in Rowsley and climbs up with scenic views, our path enters woodland and emerges on Calton Pastures. We make our way to the top of the hill with panoramic views all around us, there are welcome benches for you to sit and take in the views, look out for deer roaming these beautiful pastures.
The route heads down to the picture postcard Village of Edensor, the houses exhibit every type of style from Norman arches, castellated turrets, and Tudor chimneys from Alpine roofs.
Much of the village is privately owned by the Dukes of Devonshire.
Leaving this beautiful chocolate box village, the route heads up through scenic pastures crossing the ornate bridge built in 1759 in an Italianate style to Chatsworth House and the buzzing Xmas Market.
We'll spend plenty of time there to have a look around the stalls and grab a hot drink.
Leaving the bright lights, we follow the route by the riverside and join a track which takes us to Beeley hilltop with beautiful views around us.
Continuing, our route takes us into Beeley Village, it was originally an estate village inhabited by employees of the the Duke of Devonshire. It lies at the foot of a moor with panoramic views over the River Derwent, Lindop Wood and Stanton Moor.
There's St Anne's Church which has a Norman doorway dated around 1160 and a 14th Century tower with battlements and pinnacles, opposite the 17th Century Hall are remains of stocks.
Notice the houses and cottages all with 'dolphin blue' paintwork to signify they belong to Chatsworth.
