🎅We start our Xmas Walk from the picturesque Market Town of Bakewell. It lies on the banks of the River Wye with its charming medieval five-arched bridge, one of the oldest in the country. Pleasant walks along the river and lots of nooks and crannies with little shops to explore. It's famous for its Bakewell pudding.

The route follows the River Wye for 2 miles to the tiny chocolate box village of Ashford in the Water with its pretty limestone cottages and beautiful gardens.
There are 2 pubs and a beautiful church where relics dating back to 1200 can be seen.
Ashford in the Water is also home to the most photographed Sheepwash Bridge in Britain, lambs were kept in the walled pen on the other side to encourage their mums to go in for a swim. It's still in good working order and many tourists visit every year.

Leaving this picturesque village, the route heads up along countryside scenic paths and takes us to one of the most famous view points in Derbyshire, Monsal Head.
This beauty spot gives a spectacular view down into Monsal Dale and up the Wye Valley, the river far below winds through the rocky valley.

After a welcome break and lunch
taking in the stunning views, time to enjoy our🍪 mince pies 🍪 before we head back to Bakewell where the Pub awaits us.🍻

We head down onto the famous railway viaduct, known as the Headstone Viaduct. It's now become a cycle path and footpath.
We Walk through the dark exciting tunnel and then follow the Monsal Trail until we turn off across pastures and follow our lovely river route back to Bakewell.

A pleasant undulating walk just enough to walk off a mince pie🍪
Bring a sandwich and as many mince pies🍪 as you like..😋

Expect some muddy paths, but also good paths along the trail.
