🎄Boxing Day🎁9 mile Walk🎁Baslow Curbar🎁Froggatt🎁White Edge🎄

Details

🎁 Let's walk off some of that Xmas dinner and pudding..
🎁 This breezy Boxing Day walk blows off some of the TV cobwebs...
It's spectacular and varied and promises stunning views along high rocky edges and wild moors from start to finish.

It starts with Baslow Edge, with endless views wherever you turn your head. There's a herd of Highland cattle roaming the gritstone edges and moors, just beautiful animals.
Fascinating rock formations can be seen, a well known large rock called the Eagle stone, has been climbed by many walkers.

The Gritstone escarpment is a single stretch and soon becomes Curbar Edge, more fascinating rock formations appear to be hanging over the rocky Edge.
Curbar Edge becomes Froggatt Edge, the path goes through woodland and wild moors beyond.
Near the woods the remains of a Bronze Age Stone Circle known as 'Stone Flat' can be seen about 10 yards off the path near the woods.

The next part of the route goes through more woodland and climbs onto White Edge. It's more rugged and expansive than the other edges.
If you're lucky, you'll spot red deer in the distance to your right. They are often spotted running across the path, in rutting season the sound of stags calling can be heard for miles.

The undulating path comes off the edges and heads across wild moorland to join a grassy path with more Highland Cattle grazing these grasslands.
It leads to the famous Wellington's Monument, erected in 1866 and dedicated to the Duke of Wellington from his victory of the Battle of Waterloo.
This path soon joins the route down back to Baslow.

A fairly easy going walk with one short steepish climb up onto Baslow Edge. Expect uneven rocky paths and muddy paths across moorland
