See all- The Drunken Historians Society Presents: A Journey into the WhirlwindAZ Foothills Dance, Phoenix, AZ$10.00
Per group vote, this month, we will be delving into Journey into the Whirlwind by Eugenia Ginzburg—a haunting firsthand account of Stalinist purges, political repression, and survival in the Soviet gulags. Through Ginzburg’s gripping narrative, we will explore the brutal realities of life under Stalin’s regime and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable hardship.
A journalist and loyal Communist, Ginzburg found herself swept into the paranoia of the Great Purge, sentenced to years of imprisonment for alleged counter-revolutionary activity. Her memoir is a testament to the power of endurance, intellect, and hope, making it an essential read for those interested in 20th-century history and political persecution.
This discussion promises to be an intense and deeply thought-provoking journey through one of the darkest chapters of modern history.***
