The Fiction Forum Roundtable
Details
The main event.
Let's spend some time talking about stories and storytelling. We can discuss anything and everything, from the show you watched last week, to the book that helped someone get through a difficult time in their life, to the philosophy of ancient myths, to stories we may want to tell one day. The wider net we cast the better. Novels, comics, TV, film, anime, video games, fairy tales, mythology, urban legends- love and curiosity for all are welcome and encouraged.
Here are some basic ground rules:
- Respect is the name of the game. Respect for both people and their interests- our goal is curiosity, not judgment. Relatedly,
- Our focus is on what we love, not what we hate. It is okay to discuss things you didn’t enjoy, but taste is subjective and bashing will not be tolerated.
- Practice active listening. Let each person express a complete thought, no interrupting or conversation hijacking. On the other hand,
- No microphone hogging. We’re here for discourse, not lectures.
- No spoilers, unless everyone at the table okays it.
Here are a few potential discussion questions:
Has a story ever changed your way of thinking?
Have you ever felt a close bond to a fictional character?
How has storytelling changed over time?
What do you think storytelling is "for"?
Every 2nd Thursday of the month
