Escaping Legacy - Wouter Lagerweij

Details

The Future of Work Scotland team are delighted to bring you this intriguing session with Wouter Lagerweij as our penultimate event of 2024.

In this session we will explore how legacy makes everything difficult. You have a product in the hands of users, but delivery is slow, defects are everywhere, and estimation is a joke. Engineering is talking about a rewrite, but you can’t just stop and wait! Let me help you unravel the knot of your legacy and take back control over your systems, without stopping everything, and back to doing the work you love: putting a great product out!

Learning Objectives:

What You'll take away from this session:

● What is legacy, and technical debt? How do we always end-up with it? How can we avoid it?
● An alternative to the big-bang re-write and large scale refactoring that allows us to improve and still keep delivering at a healthy pace.
● What is the role of product owners, product managers, project managers, QA and other non-engineers when dealing with legacy systems?
Why are testing and legacy to closely connected?

Here's a little more about our amazing guest speaker:

Wouter Lagerweij is a technology and product leader and coach who knows how to align the strategy, product management and execution of software development. Having worked in all the different roles, he knows how to build an organization so that the whole becomes greater than the parts. He’s also the author of a new book: “The Product Owner’s Guide To Escaping Legacy”, explaining how product, and management, can play a central role in dealing with technical debt.
