Len Foote Hike Inn Overnight

Details

I'm going to start the new year off by spending the first Saturday at the Len Foote Hike Inn and thought some of you might be interested in joining me. This event will include hiking to the Inn from Amicalola Falls State Park, spending the night at the Len Foote Hike Inn, and then hiking back the AT Approach Trail the next day to complete the loop. In order to participate, YOU MUST BOOK A ROOM AT THEIR WEBSITE BELOW! Attendance is limited to the Inn's availability. If they don't have a room, you don't have a place to spend the night. I'm not sure how quickly they book up this time of year, but if you want to go, I would recommend getting your room early.

For anyone who hasn't visited the Len Foote Hike Inn, it is a jewel of the Georgia Mountains. I've stayed twice before and both times were a great experience. It's not extravagant, but it's good people, good food, and a comfortable place to spend the night in the woods (and they have showers!) See the link above for specifics.

You will need to check-in by leaving a voice mail for the Hike Inn at the park visitor's center. This is their way of confirming your reservation and knowing that you will arrive before dinner. Do this as you enter the park and before you head to the meeting spot. We will not be waiting for people who need to go back and do it.

We'll meet at 1:00 PM SHARP at the top of the falls (34.567415, -84.243473). You may park in either of the nearby lots. Please note, you must either have a Georgia State Parks Pass or pay the admission fee. I believe you will also be given a tag indicating that you are staying at the Inn overnight.

The total hike distance and elevation for the hike is almost exactly 10-miles with about 1900ft of elevation gain, BUT this is divided over two days (hike in Saturday; hike out Sunday). So, it should be pretty accessible to anyone that hike's regularly. It's January in the mountains: It may be very cold and there may be snow - COME PREPARED! If you have questions, ASK BEFORE THE DAY OF THE EVENT!
