Jake Mountain
Details
About The Trail: Located 10-15 minutes west of Dahlonega, Jake Mountain is just one of many trails off a Forest Road system that goes to the Army Ranger camp, then over the mountains and all the way to Blue Ridge.
There are some minor hill climbs, but nothing too strenuous, so I rate this hike as moderate. And though there are a couple of shallow creek crossings, no special equipment is needed. Do, however, bring hiking shoes, lunch, water, some snacks, and some stories to share! Level/Pace is intermediate, so experienced hikers only for this trip, meaning you can hike 3mph or better. BTW, please make sure to bring a towel and shirt change for the ride home.
Notes:
Distance = Nine miles
Time: Budget 3 hours
Skill Rating = Moderate
Pace = Fast; intermediate to advanced hikers only
Special Equipment = None
Other Stuff = No dogs please, but children that can keep the posted pace are encouraged to attend. And as always, please make sure to bring some food, water, and snacks.
Meeting Times/Places/Directions: Please meet at the trailhead. Take Rte 52 west of Dahlonega for ~ 4.6 miles, then turn right onto Nimblewill Church Road (there is an old, decrepit, and nearly falling down old convenience store called Grizzles on the corner). Drive less than five minutes to the Jake Mountain trailhead on the right. Tip: Feel free to drive through Dahlonega, but a quicker and definitely more scenic route is to take a left on Route 136 (about five minutes after passing the GA Premium Outlet Mall), then a right on Route 9 North, then a left onto Route 52.
See you there!
