What to expect
Pre Discussion:
-Being greeted by the organizer
-Name tags next to the door for your use and for everyone to know your name
- Level off: 4 minute horror trivia to just settle into the space and meeting
-Short introductions: your name and what got you into horror (you can disclose as much or as little as you want about yourself, what you do, etc)
-The Pulse and Three liner: your 'rating' out 10 of the movie, and a couple of sentences about why do you think this is horror, did it scare you and which parts scared you the most.
Why do I call it a pulse and not just a rating?
Your subjective experience/feeling is the most important aspect. This is not a technical dissection of cinema. A movie can be well made but you dislike it, that really matters. So it is encouraged to 'rate' based on your feeling first, while also adding any objective aspects of it.
Discussion:
-Be good to each other. There are no right or wrong opinions, just be curious about why you or someone would feel a certain way about the book/movie.
-We'll open up the discussion with the people that scored it the lowest and highest, and then to the rest
-There is usually not a prepared set of questions, it is an open format and people can talk about what they want to talk about, you can also bring your own questions or doubts. Be mindful to let everyone voice their thoughts.
-Before the end there will always be one consistent question "Would you change the end of the book/movie and how?" or also think about it as "Can you imagine an alternate ending and what would it look like?" There are no right or wrong answers, let your imagination run free.
Post discussion:
-Pitch and vote. It is not an obligation to pitch a new book/movie, but if you want to, come prepared with one suggestion for next month's meeting and a 3 liner of the description to pitch, including horror subgenre.
- Vote is secret on paper, you write your two top choices (they have to be different), you can vote for your own suggestion but only once. Votes are counted before we leave.
After the meeting:
Traditionally there is usually an after-meeting drink, to keep talking horror and get to know each other, at the Reckless Shepherd Brewing Co. (there are non alcoholic drinks as well)
