What we’re about

This meetup was formed to offer men a comfortable venue to talk about issues that challenge their lives and gain feedback and support from each other.  We meet the first and third Saturday of each month, 10:15 to 11:30 AM, at The Water Garden Business Center, 23432 South Pointe Drive, Suite 130, Laguna Hills, CA  92653. The fee for each meeting is $25.00 (payable via cash or check at the time of the meeting).

The present sociocultural landscape has imploded all prior meanings traditionally assigned to masculinity. As a consequence, men have lost a sense of their own identity. Boredom, frustration, addiction, depression, infidelity, greed, and a lost sense of self and self-esteem are widespread among men. Moreover, men and their motives are commonly criticized and highly misunderstood. And there is typically no place available for men to share and explore these experiences.

“The Men’s Group” is intended to provide a strong sense of camaraderie, respect, and honesty so that men can come together for growth, friendship and discovery.

Issues to be addressed will include:

• Romantic relationships with women
• Career/professional challenges
• Family of origin issues
• Emotional and physical well-being
• Parenting
• Addictive behavior

As a psychologist in private practice since 2001, I have worked with men from a diverse array of backgrounds who have struggled with defining a masculine value system and moral compass that matches their core sense of self. In this work I have come to admire men’s capacity to reflect on their experience and enhance their functioning in varied roles as fathers, brothers, lovers, husbands, sons, and friends. It is with great respect for these men that I am offering this meetup.com event for those men who yearn for a deeper connection with themselves and with other men. This meetup is not a psychotherapy group and is not oriented toward “correcting” the misguided male. Rather, it is an educational and supportive forum for men to come together to listen, share, and grow.
