What we’re about
Meet others in your local area interested in the history of Chicago's northwest side neighborhoods. We will accomplish this through discussion at meetings, public tours and events, and dissemination of historical documents and photos though publications. Additionally, we desire to collaborate with others in the community to continue to maintain and preserve the history of our collective neighborhoods. By linking the past with the present and the future, we will provide awareness and create appreciation for our place in Chicago’s and Illinois’ history.

- Christmas on State Street with Leslie GoddardEdgebrook Branch, Chicago Public Library, Chicago, IL
Please join our friends, the Edgebrook Library Branch, as they present, “Christmas on State Street” with Leslie Goddard.
For decades, Christmas in Chicago meant a trip or two to State Street to see the big department stores, and the stores went all-out for Christmas! Join us for an illustrated lecture that traces the history of Christmas celebrations on State Street and is presented by Leslie Goddard, Ph.D., historian and author of Lost Chicago Department Stores. Leslie will share photographs, ads, postcards, menus, and memorabilia to reminisce about cherished holiday traditions -- from the animated window displays and the Christmas parade to beloved characters like Uncle Mistletoe, the Cinnamon Bear, and of course, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
