Dharma Talk -- Paul Linn

Details

At 6:30pm, 15-30 min. meditation followed by a dharma talk on Buddhist principles applied to daily life. Beginners and experienced practitioners are welcome.

Topic: The Five Aggregates
This teaching was named by the historical Buddha as the "All". An apt title in that it refers to the totality of our relative experience of life, continuous, yet impermanent. Aggregate can be understood as a collection or grouping. This interdependent framework provides for our experiential awakening of what is in common parlance referred to as the "self". Development of clear insight into the five aggregates resides as a foundation and hallmark of the meditative journey and allows opening amidst and beyond the sense of separation, division and suffering. Exploration of the limits and conditioning inherent in practices of "letting go" will round out our evening together. Please join us as we explore these teachings in the context of silent meditation, dharma talk and inquiry.

Paul Linn began dharma studies and meditation in 1977. He has taught throughout the US mainland and Hawaiian islands since 1987 and co-founded the Gainesville Vipassana Society (https//www.Floridavipassana.org) with Steve Bean in 1997. Paul's extensive study and practice of psychotherapy combined with dharma teachings help inform the nature of Awakening as inherent in living itself. With respect to the spiritual traditions that meditation resides within, he aims to bring a freshness and wonder forth that reminds the heart to rest in itself and realize what is unlimited.
Access to community and wisdom should be available to everyone, so all sangha events are offered for free. Following ancient buddhist practice, we collect danā. Danā is a Pali word that denotes a special kind of giving. It means “generosity” or “giving freely. Danā is a practice of a mutual exchange of generosity and abundance. It develops lovingkindness and compassion, deepens awareness of our interconnectedness and encourages non-attachment. If this kind of giving is available to you, there will be a donation box at this event. Any amount offered is correct and appreciated. $15 is one suggested amount.
Quietude is a micro-retreat center dedicated to the cultivation of mindfulness and the inner life. It provides a container for awareness, introspection, and personal development. Quietude is rooted in the understanding that we all benefit from periodically taking time out from our day-to-day routines and responsibilities.
