Walking Pelican Cove you will discover a beautiful ocean trail with wildflowers and jack rabbits . You will experience an absolutely breath-taking walk along the cliffs of Palos Verdes with glorious morning views of ocean, bluffs, pelicans, and even sometimes dolphins and whales.

We incorporate socializing into the walk. There's a stop for coffee, drinks, snacks, etc. at the Sea Beans, a delightful spot on the Terranea Resort. (During the pandemic restrictions, we will not be stopping at Sea Beans but continuing right through.)

This is truly a wonderful walk to start the day and have as part of your week!

The Pelican Cove Parking Lot is 1200 feet to the west of the Terranea Way/Palos Verdes Drive South intersection. To access the lot traveling from San Pedro, first turn left into the Point Vicente Parking lot, turn around and exit the lot to the right. Go back along Palos Verdes Drive South to the next parking lot (Pelican Cove). From P.V. go past Point Vicente to the next lot. Once you find it the first time you'll be fine. Leave yourself some extra time to find the trail head which is located at the Pelican Cove Parking Lot on the Terranea side. Look for a statue of a Pelican at the trail head. This hike is about 5 miles, 800 ft gain, and takes about 2-1/2 hr.

We meet at 8:15am in the parking lot near the entrance road and start hiking promptly at 8:30am

We will start at Ernie Howlett park and go along some very scenic horse trails. We will either go towards Malaga Cove through Malaga Dunes, return on the Boundary Trail, or go east and pass through the tunnels under Hawthorne and Crenshaw to explore the Moccasin and Botanic Garden trails east to Rolling Hills Rd.

The hike will be between 5 and 6 miles depending on route we decide to take. Elevation gain will vary between 500ft to 800ft depending on the route.

Hiking shoes with lug soles and water required, and sunscreen, snacks, and hiking poles recommended.

There is a restroom by the tennis courts.

We'll ride along the Marvin Braude Bike Trail to the Pacific Ave. bridge, the bridge that goes over Ballona Creek into Marina del Rey. If the group is adventurous, we could even continue into Marina del Rey.

It's 24 miles roundtrip to the bridge and back, basically flat, with a few inclines around Dockweiler Beach. We'll ride past the Redondo Beach Pier, Hermosa Beach Pier, Manhattan Beach Pier, LAX, and Dockweiler Beach.

You MUST wear a helmet to ride with us.

We'll leave at 9:30am, so plan to arrive about 9:15am. There are no bike rentals available on this section of the beach, but you can rent bikes in Hermosa Beach at Hermosa Cyclery. If you're going to rent a bike, send me a message and we'll meet you by the surfer statue on the Pier in Hermosa Beach.

Bring water and a snack. Depending on how the group feels, we can stop for lunch along the way, perhaps at Playa Provisions in Playa del Rey. (http://www.playaprovisions.com/) or Greenbelt at the Hermosa Pier (http://www.greenbelthermosa.com/menu)

You need to find parking that is not restricted to 2 hrs. There is unrestricted parking on Via del Puente. Enter from PV Drive west in front of the fire station. Also on PV Drive west in front of the shopping center.
Also on some streets behind the shopping center.

If you get there early enough, there are a few 4 hr parking spaces in the parking lot.

Our holiday favorite hike is back ! Let’s have fun and dress in our Christmas attire…..pretty or cute
Let us go out on a fun festive walk through the Sleepy Hollow area of Torrance where the lights shine bright and filled with holiday frolic and fun! We will meet at Corner cafe for dinner and warm drinks and dress in fun Christmas Attire. Then go walk around the torrance area filled with amazing houses decorated for the holidays!

Meetup time: 8:15am
Start hiking promptly at 8:30am.

Depending on the route we take, this hike will be between is 5 miles/1,000 feet gain and 5.3 miles/700 feet gain.

This is a moderately paced social hike -- NO tigers!

We start off from Highridge Park and continue on trails in Three Sisters Reserve or Filorum Reserve, depending on the route. There will be one route that goes from McBride trail to Zote's Cutacross and up Rattlenake then back to Highridge Park, and a second route that takes McBride trail to Crooked Patch trail and back to Highridge Park.

Bring water, and wear lug soles. Hiking poles are also recommended.
