Each person possesses a unique metaphysical life that is deeply rooted in their experience. Its contours are often private, shaped by individual circumstances, psychological makeup, and encounters with the inexplicable—what some may call magick. Magic is the word used, often, to describe such experiences that churches disavow, even while churches rely upon the circumspect use of magics, powers, rituals.
Whether churched or no, openness to these metaphysical connections in every day life, and their public acceptance, is crucial for a fully robust inner life.
Let's consider these occult connections as aspects of the interior life -- the every-day spirits, magicks, intuitions that point toward an inhabited soul. We all have them; indeed, our mental and moral and physical lives depend upon our ability to perceive existing ones and make new ones.
I am introducing to The Virtual Academy a once-monthly Sunday conversation about the varieties of spiritisms -- the ways that individuals create, come upon, inhabit a realm of sentience beyond the casual encounters of a life. Think of these conversations as meditation, as yoga for one's interior, as conjure for the soul, as alchemy of grace. Each conversation will be an hour of Quaker centering: a proposed topic or question, with a brief reflection, and then an Open Meeting in which each person is free to bring her or their convictions, spirits, and questions. Your goal: To find your way in to where you need to be.
Revd Ed, a guide
Here are some of the questions that can begin us; and all are invited to bring more:
- How do we experience beyond the daily?
- What is your magick and where does it occur?
- How do intense emotions experienced during magical moments create lasting personal significance?
- In what ways do magical experiences provide emotional uplift and affirm the beauty and mystery of life?
- How do individuals derive personal meaning from magical experiences?
- How do magical moments help people construct a coherent and meaningful life narrative?
