WELCOME TO NAFA!
We are honored to have you here and look forward to meeting you in person at one of our many upcoming events!
NAFA is a group of Freethinkers that get together for like-minded conversation, friendship, and activism. NAFA members enjoy monthly dinners, weekly coffee socials, movie nights, camping trips, and much more. NAFA is a very active group with diverse events to appeal to all aspects of the Freethinking community.
The majority of meetings are informal and social, but we do have the occasional formal event with a guest speaker. Please come and enjoy the great conversation and good times with fellow Freethinkers in the northern Alabama area.
NAFA members embrace a viewpoint that holds that opinions should be formed on the basis of science, logic, and reason, and should not be influenced by authority, tradition, or dogma. The people of NAFA often describe themselves with terms like: Agnostic, Atheist, Humanist, Naturalist, Materialist, Nontheist, Deist, Secularist, Skeptic, or similar terms.
NAFA does not adopt any partisan political view. We do cherish and support the separation of church and state, and promote religious freedom for all.
What should you expect if you attend a NAFA social event? Almost all of our events are oriented around social interaction among our members. Unless otherwise announced, we do not have a program, agenda, or specific topic. There is no leader. You are likely to find a spirited discussion about politics, religion, economics, or other lively topics. You will also hear people talk about their families, jobs, travels, books, music, or any current event. We encourage members to mingle, so if you find yourself in an uninteresting conversation, feel free to move to another conversation, or start up your own.
NAFA has tons of events each month:
Monthly Movie Night, monthly Dinner, weekly Coffee Socials, weekly Bagel Social, monthly Picnic (during warm months), semi-annual Camping Trips (Spring & Fall), Adopt-A-Mile (every two to three months), and more special events!
At almost any time of year, NAFA is sponsoring or participating in various kinds of community outreach, charity events, and educational events. We generally put up announcements about specific events.
We have Food Drives at least three times a year. We have collected materials for schools and local pediatric clinics and will continue to do so as needed. NAFA volunteers helped with a project to build a playground for a local underdeveloped area. We will be having speakers with a variety of educational topics in the coming year. So stay tuned! If you are curious about what may be going on and what you can do to help, contact one of the Organizers listed. We are always looking for volunteers!
