What we’re about

What?
We like to hike, bike, paddle, travel, explore new places, meet new people, eat good food, and learn new skills. We aim for four+ activities per month. Our activities are varied, but hikes are the cornerstone activity of this group. The majority of our hikes are 2-3 hours long and intermediate level. We are open to suggestions for all sorts of activities, so please let us know if you have any ideas.

Who?
This group is for kind, fun, curious people with adventurous hearts and open minds who want to engage in fun (mostly outdoor) activities. We celebrate and welcome diversity of age, gender, background, skill level and ability. We want to learn from and with each other and build a kind and supportive community. We like to be active and get our hearts pumping, but we also like to socialize and stop to appreciate nature.

Where?
Our organizer Amy lives in Caledon, so many of our regular activities are within an hour's drive of Caledon, with some adventures that are further afield.

Membership:
We ask for an annual contribution of $24 (equivalent to $2 per month) to help cover the costs of running this meetup group. For new members who want to see what we are all about first, feel free to join us for one free activity before committing to an annual membership. Non-refundable membership fees are to be collected at the beginning of each year. For those who join midway through the year, you may subtract $2 for each month you missed (i.e. if you join in March, your fee would be $20, in September, your fee would be $8). As a member, you can bring guests to one event each, and if they would like to attend again, they can join as a member. Annual fees can be e-transferred to [email protected] or contact Amy to make other arrangements. Some activities will feature additional costs, which will be explained in each event description.

We also ask that each member to complete a membership application and waiver of liability before attending any events. These will be updated annually.

We have a "3 strikes and you're out" No show policy. If your plans change and you cannot make it to an event you have signed up for, please change your RSVP or contact the organizer to let us know that you cannot make it. If you fail to change your rsvp or inform the organizer that you cannot make it three times without explanation, you will be removed from the group without refund. Please treat us like you would if you were meeting up with your friends.

We want to create a real and engaged community here, so we will annually be removing those folks who have not logged into the group for more than 2 years.

This is a safe, respectful and welcoming community.
Our organizer reserves the right to remove members who they believe are engaging in unsafe or disrespectful behaviour. Thankfully, this has never happened because our group members are so kind and wonderful! But we intend to keep it that way.

About Amy:
I'm a writer, adventurer, educator and aspiring tinkerer living along the Niagara Escarpment.
I love exploring the world around me, learning new things, and seeking resilience, adventure, and joy.
I want to support people to get outside and connect with nature, themselves and others through outdoor activities. Being outdoors is, without a doubt, the best thing for my sense of self, my understanding of the world and my mental and physical health, and I also want this for others.
I love to connect with and learn alongside other awesome people to find positive and creative ways to build strong communities and live happy, healthy lives.
To learn more about me, you can check out my website www.onelittlefurther.com or on Instagram @onelittlefurther.
Also, I am often accompanied by my dog Bumper, who is blind and deaf but very friendly and up for any adventure.

Acknowledgement:
We recognize that our activities take place on traditional Indigenous territories. We acknowledge that 46 treaties and other agreements cover the territory now called Ontario. We are thankful to be able to work, live and gather in these territories. We are grateful to the First Nations, Metis and Inuit people who have cared for these territories since time immemorial and who continue to contribute to the strength of Ontario and all communities across the province.
