**RUNNYMEDE** is a water meadow alongside the Thames notable for its association with the sealing of Magna Carta. The name Runnymede is believed to derive from the Middle English runinge (taking counsel) and mede (meadow), describing a place in the meadows used to hold regular meetings. It’s historical significance has been heavily influenced by its proximity to the Roman road and river crossing at Staines. Much or the area is now held by the National Trust.

**FAIRHAVEN MEMORIAL PAVILIONS** are at the Old Windsor entrance to Runnymede Medows and comprise two Grade II listed Lutyens designed Lodges. They were given to the National Trust in 1931 and one of the pavilions houses the Magna Carta Tea Rooms.

**THE THAMES PATH** is a long distance walking trail following the River Thames for 298 km as it meanders from its source in the Cotswolds through several rural counties and on through the centre of London to the sea.

**MAGNA CARTA ISLAND** lies on the otherside of the river. On the island stands a Grade II listed pink house built in 1834. The house has its own Charter Room where the coats of arms of barons hang on the walls. Standing in the centre of the room is the octagonal piece of stone framed in oak. It is one of several contenders for where the Magna Carta was agreed in 1215.

**RUNNYMEDE MEADOWS** is a water meadow on the bank of the River Thames between Old Windsor and Egham, and one of the most famous meadows in the world. Over hundreds of years the River Thames has changed course and Runnymede has been frequently submerged under water. This pattern continued as recently as the winter of 2013/2014.

**THE JURORS ARTWORK** is a sculpture commissioned by Surrey County Council and the National Trust to mark the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta. The sculptor consists of 12 decorated bronze chairs and the sculptor invites you to sit and reflect upon the themes represented.
